SEED FARMING 101 is intended for gardeners and small to medium-scale farmers who desire to learn the knowledge and skills associated with seed saving. This two session workshop will introduce growers to the fundamental practices of growing crops for their seeds.
Anyone who is currently growing seeds for UCFA or considering becoming a seed grower for UCFA is encouraged to take this excellent live ZOOM class.
Amirah is a farmer, seedkeeper and community educator who has worked in agriculture and food justice since 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Temple University, studied agriculture in Brazil and Panama, and has farmed in Massachusetts, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Amirah currently farms 1.5 acres in Pennsylvania and gives community workshops on seed-keeping and agro-ecology. In 2021, Amirah founded Sistah Seeds, and farm and seed company with a mission to regenerate culturally-important varieties and seed-keeping traditions from the African Diaspora, while uplifting black seed stories and empowering aspiring black seed stewards.
The class is being split into two 1 hour sessions.
(A 45 minute presentation and a 15 minute Q&A)
